Breathe in the World by Trina Brunk

Breathe in the World
Music for your Spirit's Journey

Breathe in the World was my first album. I made it during a very transformative time in my life. I was three months pregnant with my third son when I wrote my first complete song, the title track, on Mother's Day 2008, and received my first shipment of CD's from the manufacturer just days before his birth on Christmas Eve 2008. As with each of my pregnancies, I engaged this one as an "inner-work intensive", seeking to re-align myself with my purpose for being on the planet, taking inner inventory and seeking to bring my very best self to my life and to my children.

In the course of this "inner inventory" I reconnected with my dream of writing and recording music. I also found myself at a crossroads in my marriage, knowing that I was seeking much more than to just hang in there; and after nine years of just hanging in there best as we could, I knew we needed an infusion of life and mutual fulfillment into our dynamics. There were "unopened wedding gifts" of love and joy and understanding between us, and I found myself pushing from all angles to uncover these gifts. These songs represent the inner journey to find the answers I sought, to find a blueprint for living truly and deeply, free from unconscious patterns. As I recorded the songs I listened to them and they consistently helped me re-connect with goodness amidst the intensity. After sharing the songs with others and hearing them reflect similarly, I started to see that this was a gift others could benefit from too.

Lyrics

Prayer for Protection
words by James Dillet Freeman, first published by the Unity School of Christianity; melody ©1998 by Gary D Smith. Recorded with permission.

God is Here
the Light of God surrounds us
God is Here
the Love of God enfolds us
the Power of God protects us
the Presence of God watches over us
wherever we are, God is.

Breathe in the World
by Trina, ©2008

I've spent enough time looking through windows
I find that I'm ready to walk through the door
I see you before me here in this moment
This is the moment I've been waiting for

chorus
Breathe in the world
Breathe in the world
Breathe in the love that breathes you
(2x)

This path emerges the moment we walk it
We are the way peace moves on the earth
Being created new in each moment
witnessing planetary rebirth

We are the presence of Peace beyond reason
We are the way light dances in form
We are the children of God's own creation
We are the dreamer and we are the dream

chorus

I am the way light dances in matter
I am duality made whole
Cannot be lost or changed in my essence
Cannot be broken, damaged or sold

Heal in one moment years of oppression
Leaving behind old wounds and grief
We are the way Love moves on the planet
Nothing can change that we are free

I've spent enough time dancing in shadows
I feel the wind of God in the door
Meeting your spirit here in this moment
We are the ones we've been waiting for

Breathe in the Life
Breathe in the Joy
Breathe in the Peace that breathes you

Living on Grace
Being the One
Finding the truth within you

Breathe in the world
Breathe out your love
Breathe through the pain that binds you

Breathe in the pain
Breathe out your love
Breathe through the lies and breathe out your truth
Fill up your lungs
Let it all out
Leave all your effort behind you

Life is the joy that breathes you

We are the laughter, we are the children
We are the elders opening doors
Spirit breathes through us here in this moment
Oneness with you is what I'm here for

Breathe in the world
Breathe out your love
Back to the Love that breathes us all

Supposed 2 Be
by Trina, ©2008

You were supposed to be
the one God sent to rescue me
to heal my wounds
& make me free
you said you wanted to marry me
but all of that was too good to be true
'cause the moment after we said "I do"
you told me you wanted rescuing, too

I didn't come here just to be your knight
I'm the princess, that's MY right
get back on your horse,
go find a dragon to slay

turns out I could be glad you're not the slaying kind
'cause some days, I'm the dragon in your mind

So I went to God one night
I said "this person you sent, he's really no knight
he doesn't want to take care of me
and I'm stuck with him now,
what's gonna happen to me?

I don't wanna play this game anymore
if you sent him, then what is he for?

God laughed and said, "you're gonna be okay.
if you look inside your heart, you're gonna find your way."

So I looked inside my heart
and the love I found ignited a spark
lit up a universe inside of me
full of strength and possibility
I found that freedom needs to be shared to be really free

I realized I don't depend on you
to live the way I wanted to
'cause I am strong and so are you

now day by day I'm finding love within
and when you do the same, I love that we both win

when I leave my expectations behind,
I can catch a glimpse of what God had in mind . . .

Connection
by Miten, ©2003 Prabhu Music. Recorded with permission.

I've seen a lot of rain, seen a lot of road
Seen a lot of the world, we’re on overload
I see it in myself, it’s everywhere I go
Each one of us is looking for connection,
Connection

Everybody’s on the phone, nobody’s home
How do we share, how do we show that we care
And everybody’s on the line
Wasting time
Looking for connection, connection.

Reach out and touch someone
Everybody’s innocent here
Everybody’s got a song to sing
Everybody’s got a private fear
Reach out and take somebody’s hand
Here we stand in the eyes of God,
Reaching out, reaching out for connection

Got the MP3, got the mini disc
I got a world of information at my fingertips.
I got a young son, he’s living with his walkman on.
Just like me, he’s looking for connection,
Connection.

Chorus
We’re reaching out, for connection
Come on, come on, make that connection.

Rain Song
©2008 by Trina

When will the rain come again
I’ve done my best, I’ve done my part
but the earth is scorched just like my heart
I’m longing for the sky to open wide
but the raindrops hide
and where’s the peace you promised me
I’ve searched and dug for prophecy but just don’t feel it coming my way
I don’t know why.
please open sky, please open sky, please open sky.
I could kiss the clouds the other day
now they feel so far away

Not going home yet, oh you feel so tired
want to lay this body down
Take to the clouds next time one comes round
gonna leave this barren ground
you’ve always been one to live life true
you’ve built half a bridge to the sky
but you know in your heart it’s not just up to you
and you need an answering sign

Oh forgiveness is the bridge that takes you there
Break your heart open wide
feel the rain come in your soul
and it will flow.
it will flow, it will flow, it will flow
Oh, Please know:
that you will flow

Precious Spirit
Melody by George N Allen in 1844
lyrics ©2008 by Trina

Precious Spirit, I’m in your hands
In your light I choose to stand
I release and open to your healing grace
and you give me all I need
and my deepest hunger feed
precious spirit, in your presence I am home.

In the here, in the now
without needing to know how
in the strength of your love i am free
through the storm, I know your power
you hold me through my darkest hour
precious spirit, in your presence, I am home.

Leaving the Fight
©2008 by Trina

when I walk through through this world with a heart of humility
when an open heart is the friend that guides my mind
my ears are opened up and my eyes can see
the unity of all of humankind

will you please open your heart to the possibility
that we are all on the same side?
will you connect with your courage when you feel you need to hide?
I don’t know any other way, we each have our part to play.

we’re here together and we’re watching it rise
we’re seeing the future with our own sweet eyes
we’re giving it our best
and we know it’s a journey but we
are all in this together and we’re loving so well.

it’s all good, it’s all right, and we’re leaving, leaving the fight (2x)

This is our main task at hand because only love will heal this land (2x)

yes only love will heal this land.

Purnamadah, Purnamidam

Kali Durge Namoh Namah
Kali Durge Namoh Namah
Chitti Kundalini Namoh Namah
Chitti Kundalini Namoh Namah
Kali Durge Namoh Namah

I knelt on a precipice
watching the moon rise
and felt a chill of truth go through me
no matter how far I fall
I’m still in the lap of God
and all good things are coming to me
and it’s all right
even in my soul’s dark night
it’s all right
I know I’ll find my way, and some day
I’ll look back on this and say
it was just a dream I had

Though there are things I’d change
if I could go back in time
hearts I’d touch and doors I’d open,
it’s every choice I’ve made
that’s brought me to this place
the twisted path, the words unspoken
and it’s all right, there’s no black & white
it’s all right
we do the best we can and let it go
it’s comforting to know
everything goes back to light

One Light, calling
in you
in me
I’m only following
as best I can
from where I am
the light I see

Imagine a billion worlds
born of the One Light
each with galaxies in motion
souls that are surging forth
souls that are merging back
like rivers to the ocean
and it’s all right
birth and death and life
it’s all right
we just go on and on, and on and on . . . .
when all illusion’s gone
everything goes back
to light
everything goes back to light

Whole
©2008 by Trina

Whole
when some might see us divided, see us whole
whole, see us whole
see us whole
when you see us as one as we always have been
we all come around & face the same light, each in our turn

we’re just the most beautiful world that we know of
the most beautiful place that we have
we belong to each other and all we are is love
all we really have is love.
that's all we really are is love.

All we really are is love

are we not together now?
are we not one?
can you look in my face and not see a reflection of your own?

when you see us divided, see us whole

"This collection of music felt like the birthing of a new life of the spirit to me. The title song is a glorious awakening, as if discovering the world for the first time. The song Supposed 2 Be is a classic commentary on the difference between romance and reality in marriage.
The River is indigenously resonant and melodious. Rain Song hauntingly sweeps you up as the desert wind might sweep across biblical locations. Each song in this album is precious and unique. Definitely get this one for a vivid and satisfying experience in sound."

Trina's music is truly inspiring. I find myself waking up to it in my head, and humming it in the shower. It's not just music, it's magic. It pushes me to be more, to live more, to love more, to feel more, to reach higher. Thanks Trina! I can't wait for your next album.

I would give this artist and album more stars if available. I just LOVE this album!!! I listen to this cd all the time. Trina is truly an amazing musician, her song writing inspires and pushes listeners to put on their big girl pants and deal with life on life's terms. Everybody should have this album in their collection. Thank you Trina!!!!!!

"Uplifting" is a shorthand description of this work, but it's so much more. I laughed and I cried the first time I listened, and sometimes I still do, because there is so much creativity, love, beauty, poignancy packed into it - with just a touch of whimsy. This artist is world-class and deserves to be heard by everyone.
